Cement calculator
Work out cement bags, sand and aggregate for concrete, brickwork and plaster before you order.
Formula
Dry volume = wet volume × 1.54 for concrete, × 1.33 for brickwork mortar and × 1.27 for plaster. Each material gets its share of the mix ratio, and cement volume ÷ 0.0347 m³ gives 50 kg bags. Brickwork assumes 0.23 m³ wet mortar and 500 standard bricks per m³ of wall.
- Cement: 8.1 bags (50 kg)
- Sand: 0.42 m³ (14.8 cu ft)
- Aggregate: 0.84 m³ (29.7 cu ft)
Estimate only, without wastage. Nominal mixes shown; use design mix quantities where your engineer specifies them.

FAQ
- How many cement bags are needed for 1 m³ of M20 concrete?
- About 8 bags. Wet volume 1 m³ × 1.54 = 1.54 m³ dry, cement share 1 ÷ 5.5 = 0.28 m³, divided by 0.0347 m³ per bag.
- Why multiply by 1.54?
- Dry materials shrink in volume once water is added and voids fill, so dry volume is about 1.54 times the wet concrete volume. Mortar uses about 1.27 to 1.33.
- Does this include wastage?
- No. Add around 5% for wastage and check quantities with your engineer or contractor.
