Roofing sheet weight chart

Weight of GI, GC and colour coated sheets by thickness, per square metre and per running foot.

Formula

Weight (kg per m²) = thickness (mm) × 7.85. Per running ft = kg per m² × sheet width (m) × 0.3048. Add the zinc or zinc-aluminium coating mass on top, for example 0.12 kg per m² for Z120.

Base steel weight without coating or paint. Widths are flat sheet widths before profiling. Actual weight varies with coating grade and thickness tolerance, so billing is by actual weighed weight.

FAQ

How is roofing sheet weight calculated?
Weight (kg per m²) = thickness (mm) × 7.85, using steel density of 7850 kg/m³. A 0.50 mm sheet weighs about 3.93 kg per m² before coating.
How much does the zinc coating add?
The coating mass is printed as Z or AZ grade in g/m² on both sides together. Z120 adds 0.12 kg per m² and Z275 adds 0.275 kg per m².
Is thickness measured with or without coating?
Brands quote either base metal thickness (BMT) or total coated thickness (TCT). Ask which one is quoted when comparing rates.
