House construction cost calculator

Estimate the cost of building a house from its built-up area, with a list of the cement, steel, sand, aggregate and bricks you will need.

How it works

Total area = built-up area per floor × floors. Cost = total area × your cost per sq ft. Material quantities = total area × the thumb rules below, rounded up. The cost per sq ft is yours to edit; rates vary, so WhatsApp us for today's material rates.

The cost per sq ft is an editable placeholder for the Standard tier, not a quote. Rates vary by city, brand and labour, so replace it with your contractor's figure.

Total built-up area 1,000 sq ft. Estimated construction cost: ₹18,00,000 at ₹1,800 per sq ft.

Material quantities

  • Cement: 420 bags (50 kg)
  • Steel: 4,000 kg (4.00 tonnes)
  • Sand: 1,300 cu ft (36.8 m³)
  • Aggregate: 1,000 cu ft (28.3 m³)
  • Bricks: 8,000

Assumptions

Thumb rules per sq ft of built-up area for a residential RCC framed house with brick masonry. Sand and aggregate are in cubic feet.

Material thumb rules per sq ft by tier
TierCement (bags)Steel (kg)Sand (cu ft)Aggregate (cu ft)Bricks
Basic0.43.51.20.98
Standard0.4241.318
Premium0.454.51.41.18

Estimate only, without wastage. Tiers change structure and finish, so premium homes use a little more cement, steel and aggregate. Excludes land, plot development, interiors and fittings. Check with your engineer.

FAQ

How is construction cost calculated per sq ft?
Cost = total built-up area × cost per sq ft. Built-up area is carpet area plus walls, balconies and staircase, per floor. Enter your own cost per sq ft; the default is only a placeholder.
How much cement is needed per sq ft?
A common thumb rule is 0.4 to 0.45 bags of cement per sq ft of built-up area for a framed RCC house, covering foundation, slabs, masonry and plaster.
How much steel is needed per sq ft?
Roughly 3.5 to 4.5 kg per sq ft for a residential RCC frame. See the steel calculator for a split by bar size.
Are these quantities exact?
No. They are thumb rules for budgeting. Soil, spans, design, finish level and wastage change them, so get a quantity list from your engineer before ordering.
