What the brands share
UltraTech, Ambuja, ACC and Birla Uttam all sell PPC to IS 1489 (Part 1) and OPC to IS 269, and carry the ISI mark. The minimum standards are the same for all of them: PPC must reach 33 N/mm² at 28 days, OPC 43 grade 43 N/mm² and OPC 53 grade 53 N/mm². Actual test strength of a batch is usually above the minimum.
We are authorised partners of UltraTech and Birla Uttam, and also deal in Ambuja and ACC.

PPC or OPC by use
| Job | Usually suits | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Foundation and footings | PPC | Lower heat, better resistance to sulphates in soil |
| Columns, beams and slabs of a normal house | PPC, or OPC if the design asks | PPC is allowed for general RCC under IS 456 |
| Brick or block masonry | PPC | Cohesive mortar, fewer shrinkage cracks |
| Plaster | PPC | Smoother finish and workability |
| Precast, early shuttering removal, high grade concrete | OPC 53 | Faster strength gain |
Picking by brand
Since all four meet the same standard, choose on supply and rate for the type you need. Use one brand for one structural pour, so setting behaviour stays uniform, and buy the full quantity for the pour at the same time where you can.

Frequently asked questions
- Which cement is best for house construction?
- UltraTech, Ambuja, ACC and Birla Uttam all meet the same IS standards. For most house work PPC is a good all round choice, and OPC 53 is used where fast strength is needed.
- Is OPC better than PPC for slabs?
- Not necessarily. PPC is widely used for house slabs and gives fewer shrinkage cracks with proper curing. Follow your engineer's specification.
- Can I use different cement brands in one house?
- Yes across the house, as long as each pour uses one type and brand. Avoid mixing types in a single pour.
- How much cement does a house need?
- About 0.4 to 0.5 bags per sq ft of built-up area as a rough guide. Use our cement calculator for a slab or a whole house.
